Question 1

How much does it cost to replace a furnace in Chicago?

Accepted Answer

Furnace replacement in Chicago typically runs $2,500 to $7,500 depending on the unit size, efficiency rating, and installation complexity. Gas furnaces with higher AFUE ratings cost more upfront but cut energy bills significantly over time. We give you an exact price after assessing your home.

Question 2

What is the $5,000 rule for HVAC?

Accepted Answer

Multiply your system's age by the repair cost. If that number exceeds $5,000, replacement usually makes more financial sense than repair. For example, a 10-year-old furnace needing a $600 repair scores $6,000, which suggests it's time for a new furnace.

Question 3

What is the average cost to have a furnace replaced?

Accepted Answer

Nationally, furnace replacement averages $4,500 to $6,000 installed. In the Chicago area, costs can run slightly higher due to local labor rates and permit requirements. Flexible financing options are available to help you manage the cost without draining your budget.

Question 4

What is the furnace replacement program in Chicago?

Accepted Answer

Chicago and Illinois offer several assistance programs for eligible homeowners, including the Illinois Home Weatherization Assistance Program (IHWAP) and utility rebates through ComEd and Peoples Gas. These can offset furnace replacement costs for qualifying households. Ask us and we'll point you in the right direction.

Question 5

Is it worth replacing a 30-year-old furnace?

Accepted Answer

Almost always, yes. Furnace systems that old run at 60-70% efficiency at best, while modern gas furnaces reach 96% AFUE. A new furnace lowers energy bills, reduces unexpected breakdowns, and improves indoor air quality. Most Chicago homeowners see the investment pay off within a few years.

Question 6

How much is a furnace for a 2,000 square-foot house?

Accepted Answer

A 2,000 sq ft Chicago home typically needs an 80,000 to 100,000 BTU furnace. Equipment alone runs $1,200 to $3,500 depending on brand and efficiency. Add installation and you're looking at $3,500 to $6,500 total. We size your system correctly the first time so you're not over or underpaying.

Question 7

Are there any rebates for furnace replacement in Chicago?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Nicor Gas offers rebates on qualifying high-efficiency furnaces (95% AFUE or higher), with the rebate amount based on the AFUE rating. You apply within 90 days of installation. We will tell you if your new system qualifies before we install it.
